Challenge Britain
The Great British 4×4 Challenge!

Well after A LOT of thinking and doodling, its coming together!

Challenge Britain” – Are you Tough Enough?
3 Days – 3 Nights – 1 Goal
The Ultimate 4WD Cross Country Challenge

The Background

The inaugural event will take place Mid 2007 and will cover the whole of the UK giving everybody a fair chance to get involved.

It will be sponsored by one or several other companies and charities.

The Event

It will start in John O’Groats and will finish at Lands End.

This will take place over three days and will be 24hrs a day non stop.

So, Theory being, we will have several pajs at the start point up in John O’Groats, which will travel down towards Lands End using only recognised off road tracks and byways etc…
so the whole event will be offroad as much as possible.

But, ain’t as easy as that!

This will be a baton race, by this I mean that two Pajeros will start at the begining and travel say 50 miles offroad to the next checkpoint where they will pass the POCUK baton to the next paj who will travel another 50 miles offroad to the next checkpoint and so on and on…….

There will be a minimum of two/three Pajeros in convoy at any one time during the event, one Pajero carrying the POCUK baton, and one, possibly two support vehicles for communications, first aid, recovery, relay, rapid response…..etc…

The driver of the vehicle carrying the baton is NOT allowed to leave the truck at any time unless its a genuine emergency, so if your vehicle gets stuck off road, you will have to fully rely on the support vehicle to recover you.

Makes it more interesting!

So, in a nutshell

two to three vehicles at any one time in the event - one carrying the baton, the other one or two to provide extensive map directions, first aid, vehicle recovery, rapid response etc…

It will Be based Off road as much as possible

the idea is to carry a baton over a approximate distance of 50 miles to the next checkpoint were you will pass the baton to the next paj and so on…. all the way to lands end!

it will be 24hrs a day for three days, so you could, if you wanted, be driving off road throughout the Scottish Orkneys at 2am in the morning! its up to you!

At Lands End there will be a finishing do with music, band etc and Macmillan representatives etc….

The Small Print

We will need a serious amount of drivers to make this happen! You will be required to carry the baton over roughest terrain in the quickest time to be able to accomplish this task in three days.

Now at some point we will be having the Macmillan Cancer sufferers actually driving some of the trucks on the routes.
for this we will need two things,
1. - a person who is willing to let them drive their vehicle while being accompanied,
2. - and a driver who can hold a huge lump in their throat knowing that someone who has a very, very limited life left is enjoying themselves to the max in your personal company and for this you should be proud.

We need maximum input from everyone here to do this.

Please only ask to drive if you are almost certain you could pull it off!

We Need Equipment!

To make this easier and to save the club money we need members to provide equipment to make this event happen.
below is a list of stuff we will need -

1. - First aid Boxes for each support unit
2. - Two-way radio equipment for each convoy - We need to know where any vehicle is at any one point in time so we need some sort of long range communication. this is VITAL during the night time run.
3. - Maps of UK byways etc…
4. - a lot of patience
5. - the worlds largest printer and laminator for the routes

My Personal Opinion

Now I have detailed the idea, I am after CONSTRUCTIVE feedback.
People who intend to put this idea down by saying it isn’t possible……..IT FUC*ING WELL IS!!!! We will make it happen!

To be able to make an imprint on the lives of these cancer sufferers and make them genuinely happy for only ten minutes when driving my truck is worth everything and more to me.
